My name is Tresa and I am an Entrepreneur.
I’ve been a small business owner, and I’ve also been a partner in a small business adventure, but I’ve been an entrepreneur of some sort most of my life. Most days, I’m a Mom-preneur, juggling the life of working, trying to run my own business and parenting while trying to remain halfway sane!
Some of you may not know this about me, but I’ve been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember. When I was young, I was always looking for ways to be more independent, ways to make my own money and ways to grow and gain experience. It’s just become second nature for me to be an entrepreneur.
I started thinking the other day about why people should trust me… to run their social media accounts, to represent their brand or their business, to learn the ins and outs of their business. If there’s anyone who understands the gravity of that information, it’s me. It’s not something I take lightly. I am well aware that you are handing over your social media accounts and trusting a perfectly good stranger to represent not only you and your business but also your brand and your reputation, for better or worse.
So why should you trust me?
I asked myself, “Why am I worth trusting?” I’ll tell you why…
An Entrepreneur is Born
My mom, Penny, has been a small business owner and an entrepreneur her entire adult life and pretty much the entirety of mine. I have worked alongside her since I was a little girl, always wanting to help her any way I could. She has always been my greatest inspiration and motivation.
When I was a baby, my mom wanted a way to be able to stay home with me while still contributing financially, so her and my dad started their very own crafting business, making handmade holiday decor. It was called Tresa’s Treasures. They sold their pieces in stores around the state and even went to craft fairs for years. When my brother and I were older, we would even help paint the pieces. I remember as a child driving through our neighborhood and seeing my parent’s holiday decor in windows and front yards and it’s one of my fondest memories.
Christmas was my favorite time of year because you could always find one of my parent’s handmade pieces even when you were just driving to the store! It was always a game between my brother and me to point out Mommy & Daddy’s signs in front yards and windows! Three years ago I saw a piece in someone’s front yard that looked exactly like the pieces my mom had done so many years ago and I almost cried.
Entrepreneur for Life…
When that chapter came to a close and it was time to move on to bigger and better things, my mom decided to become a licensed massage therapist and esthetician. She loved the flexibility and freedom she had working for herself and she wasn’t willing to give that up! The first chapter of that journey began on September 11th, 2001; the very same day that the Twin Towers were attacked. Even though it was a horrific, terrible day of tragedy for our country, she still showed up for her first night of class to begin this new chapter of her life! She didn’t give up. She wasn’t deterred and she persevered, which is something I have always admired her for.
She ran her own small business for 15+ years! I remember helping her set up small parties for paraffin wax dipping, helping her reset her massage rooms between clients and even doing some data entry from her customer forms. I helped her send monthly emails and update her business website along with creating and printing promotional brochures and flyers. I watched and helped alongside her for years. She wasn’t just a great role model as a parent; she was the perfect entrepreneur role model, too.
During her adventures as a massage therapist in Downtown Racine, she started another business adventure in 2012; On A Whim Creative Collective, an art workshop. We worked together as a mother-daughter duo for 6 years before I moved to Green Bay, WI last year.
When I was 15 or 16 years old, with the help of my mom, I even started my own small business, called I Can Do That, Too! I was a glorified personal assistant! I could clean your house, run your errands, pick up your groceries, walk your dogs; anything you could think of, I Could Do That, Too!
Over the years, she helped me start a small business in photography, and she encouraged me wherever my dreams took me; photographer, graphic designer, writer, artist, personal assistant, blogger, social media manager and more. She supported and encouraged me when I became a parent 3 years ago and guided me through the years to become a more patient, empathetic and understanding mom to the most handsome little boy around. She has been there for me through everything, everywhere life has taken me.
Picture-Perfect Role Model
In the last few years, I have watched my mom go back to school for her certification in Interior Design and launch her 3rd Small Business; Looking Forward Home Staging & Interior Design!
In her first year, she has staged 12+ homes in SE Wisconsin. In the first month of her second year as a professional, accredited interior designer and home stager, she will stage 10+ homes! Not only could I not be more proud of her, all she has accomplished, and all she will continue to accomplish on this journey, but I couldn’t have asked for a better parent, a better mentor or a better role model in this life.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned all these years…
If there’s one thing I’ve ever learned… from watching her chase her dreams, from watching her create entire businesses from nothing to watching her be the best version of herself she can be and continuing to better herself, never setting and always pushing for the next biggest and best thing all these years… if there’s one thing I’ve ever taken away from watching her make it happen, year after year, month after month, it’s to never stop chasing your dreams.
Never give up.
Never stop pushing, or fighting, or working towards the next thing, because you have no idea what’s on the other side of the wall you’ve worked so hard to break through! And there is no greater feeling than accomplishing all you’ve ever dreamed of! There is no greater accomplishment than creating an entire life for yourself from scratch and watching it grow into something amazing!
So, if there’s anyone who’s more fit to be your social media manager, to help you grow your small business, to help you take it to the next level; it’s me.
If there’s anyone who wants this more than anything else and will stop at nothing to make it happen, it’s me.
If there’s anyone who wants to succeed by helping and encouraging others to succeed; it’s still me.
No matter what you need for your small business and social media management needs, I promise you; it’s me, and you won’t regret picking me to represent your brand and your small business.
